Yesterday, after collecting our NZ visa, I just called up Dr. Loh's clinic to find out the urine culture results of Kunchu. The nurse told me that the result is out and the Dr will give me a call to discuss the results. I was about to walk back to the MRT to go home, then I thought why not just cross the road and visit the clinic to pick up the result as I was still on Orchard Road. It was crowded as usual when I reached there, waited for around 20 mins to talk to the Dr.
He told me that the culture results shows some bacterial infection in the urinary tract and must be treated with antibiotics. He explained me the possible reasons showing the pictures of urinary tract. At first he told me that urinary tract infection (UTI) is quite uncommon in baby boys unless they had diarrhea. The other reason could be related to kidney and advised me to do an ultrasound scan on kidney to see if everything is alright after we come back from NZ. I just remembered reading on the web that constipation could also lead to UTI. As Kunchu is always constipated, i just pointed this out to the Dr and he told me there is a chance for that. He then showed me another picture to explain the cause, as the bladder will not get emptied full due to constipation, the leftover urine in the bladder may also cause bacterial infection. He suggested to give antibiotics for 7 days, do a urine test after we come back from NZ and told that he would strongly recommend to check kidneys as well.
I started giving antibiotic (augmentin) to Kunchu yesterday night itself. Now I have to carry the antibiotic with me on the flight as we are flying to NZ on 15th, Sunday. The problem is, it needs to be refrigerated always. I'm thinking of taking cooler pad to keep it cool until I get into the flight and get the flight attendances' to keep it refigerated afterwards. Hope they won't make an issue carrying the medicine & cooler pads on the flight. I have also got a letter from the Dr indicating that Kunchu is on this medication, in case of any issues. For the kidney screening, I think I'll consult another dr before going about doing it, as the doctors here like to exaggerate everything thinking about the minutest possibilities. It is good in one way to make sure everything is alright, but scary as well to know all details :(
